Compensation and Benefits
Anticipated Hiring Salary: $3,796 per month
Full CSU Classification Salary Range: $3,796 - $5,369 per month
- This is a full-time (equivalent to 40 hours per week), probationary, non-exempt position.
The CSU system provides a comprehensive benefit package that includes medical, dental and vision plans, membership in the California Public Employees Retirement System (CalPERS), sick and vacation time, and 14 paid holidays a year. Job Summary
The International Admissions Specialist works under the guidance of the admission team lead and is responsible for process tasks from receipt of application to final eligibility determination, which are well structured and procedural in nature. The incumbent will be required to consult resources when encountering diverse or unstable elements in the evaluation process at a moderate level. The incumbent interacts primarily with students to acquire information to ascertain facts, to provide information, and occasionally to secure the cooperation and understanding of others on matters relating to admission requirements.
Key Qualifications
- Knowledge of:
- Knowledge of research methods and interviewing techniques.
- Principles of individual and group behavior.
- Basic principles and practices in the Student Services field.
- Knowledge of computer office systems and ability to use a broad range of technology, systems, and software packages (Microsoft Office Suite, Google apps, web-based applications).
- Skill/Ability to:
- Rapidly acquire knowledge of the policies, procedures and activities of the International Office.
- Learn to interpret and apply program rules and regulations.
- Reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations.
- Write and present clear and concise information orally and in written reports.
- Detail oriented, organized, and able to focus on the priority of processing applications.
- Use judgment to locate, select and organize information pertaining to the evaluation of international admission applications.
- Use research and observation techniques for the purpose of recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information.
- Perform analysis utilizing established guidelines, regulations and precedents.
- Follow regulations, procedures and established parameters to make recommendations or decisions.
- Intermediate typing, word processing, and computer skills.
- Monitoring record systems to identify and correct errors.
- Accurately enter and retrieve data using a computerized record system.
- Exercise independence within the established structure in selecting approaches to complete tasks.
- Use well-structured or established formats to make oral presentations to groups.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and faculty.
- Use basic interviewing techniques to assist students.
- Learn grading systems of different educational institutions.
- Give clear and organized instructions for others to fill out forms and applications both orally and in writing.
- Organize and plan routine work assignments and projects including handling multiple priorities.
- Work with students, faculty, staff and the general public from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Understand and abide with the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and State of California policy regarding the confidentiality of records.

Education and Experience
- Experience: Preferred but not required.
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job‑related field. Specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis.
- Position requires proof of U.S. citizenship or permanent resident status to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO) and per Department of Homeland Security and Department of State regulations.
- Preferred Skills:
- Experience with processing applications in a complex workflow environment.
- Experience with updating status of applications, and other documents in PeopleSoft or other complex data system.
- Experience with handling inquiries from the public that involves researching status of applications in a complex workflow environment.
- Linguistic capabilities in more than one language.
